I've been playing music and creating art for my entire life. When my art took off commercially in 2009 I was surprised but very pleased. A business partner of mine said this would look great on fabric and had a sample made. He was right it looked great...
Several years later another friend said you should put that art on shirts. He offered to put up the money to have the first sample made.
I wanted to be original and do something that no one had ever done before. My idea was to use my art as the fabric and number each shirt like I was numbering an art print in a limited addition run.
I wanted to embroider my signature in silver like I sign my art. It would be a first and a true limited edition. 100 randomly number shirts from SMALL to XXL from a single piece of art. When they're gone they're gone. Then introduce the next piece and so on.
We found a seamstress picked out a shirt pattern and BOOM we had a shirt complete with embroidered signature, title and number.
I thought we had something very unique and different so we flew to New York to have a meeting with a major men's shirt manufacturer who couldn't see the vision and blew us off like so much dust. Oh well I got to see some friends.
